📍 Swaraj Round (Thekkinkadu Maidan), Thrissur Town, Kerala
Roar into Onam with the wildest celebration Kerala has to offer — Pulikali, the legendary Tiger Dance of Thrissur!
Every year, the streets of Thrissur burst into a riot of colour, drumbeats, and roaring energy as hundreds of dancers transform into tigers and leopards — hand-painted from head to toe — and prowl around Swaraj Round to the rhythm of traditional percussion. It’s fierce, fun, and unforgettable.
🎭 What to Expect:
- Over 400 dancers from 7–14 local troupes (desams)
- Intricate body painting (Chamayam) that takes 5–7 hours
- Electrifying live Pulimelam performances (Chenda, Thakil, Udukku)
- A moving parade with floats, crowd cheers, and prizes for best teams
- A spectacle held in the heart of Kerala’s cultural capital since the 19th century
More than just a dance, Pulikali is a living art form and a roar of joy passed down through generations.
